While phone calls can be aided by the use of hands-free devices like Bluetooth headsets, texts and emails still take driver’s eyes off the road. Some apps will block calls and text messages while the car is in motion. Another option that allows the driver to stay connected and informed is the DriveSafe.ly application, which reads texts and emails aloud. iSpeech (creator of DriveSafe.ly) CEO Heath Ahrens explains that an upcoming version of the application will even allow response by voice command. "Only because I have first-hand knowledge, now, of somebody that got killed because of this." Williams' first-hand knowledge may make him a witness against his former girlfriend, Lori Reineke, who is denying what police are now saying about her. In this story, a 16-year-old girl from Texas survives a nearly fatal accident after texting while driving. The story and accompanying photos show how much damage a few seconds of distraction can do, especially for an inexperienced driver.
